Yesterday we had a great in house Visual Studio Team Edition seminar. At the end we did a round up of the participants take aways and I will quickly summarize them here:
- Nice tool for integrating development with testing and then having those test results available on the server.
- Nice tools for Test Driven Development (TDD)
- Nice tools for Coding conventions
- Lowsy tool for project management
- Is concerned with the Software lifecycle and poorly implements (does offer guidance) project issues
- Poor integration with Project, for example doesnt maintain activity sequence
- Useless for Time Tracking since it doesnt record when work was actually done.
- No workflow of process guidance which is what we really want. The integration through workflow for example the deliverable process relationship of risks, schedule buffers, mitigation plans, documentation, approvals etc.
So to sum up its a great tool for testing and most aspects of software configuration management but it doesnt link well to the overall project picture.
